I have learned that Maya Angelou was born Marguerite Johnson in 1928. She is an author, poet, historian, songwrter, playwright, and ect. In 1954, at the request of Dr.Martin Luther King Jr: Maya Angelou became the northarab Observerern coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. 1961-1962 she was associate editor of The Arab Observer in Cairo. 1964-1966 she was feature editor of the African Review in Accra. She was appointed by Gerald Ford to the Bicenten tennial Commission. She accepted a lifetime appointment in 1981 as Reynolds proffessor of American studies at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. Maya Angelou was the first black woman diretor in Hollywood. She has also writen and produced several prize winning documentaries. A PBS specials for which she recieved the Golden Eagle Award. Maya Angelou was twic nominated for a Tony award for acting.

In 1993,angelou wrote anddelivereda poem,"on the pulse of the morning".she was the first black woman director.In holliwood in 1971,she wrote the original screenplay and musical score for the film Georgia.
